Possible handicap calculations
This is the text of my reply to Patrick about how we could calculate handicaps....
"Well, many people don't have enough rounds shot to have a conventional handicap. If they did, we could just use 9/60 of their indoor handicaps and 9/144 of their outdoor handicaps.
Failing that, we could ask people to shoot three Head-To-Head rounds "solitaire" and report the scores to you. We could then assign them a Head-to-Head ONLY handicap. As the maximum score is 90 (indoor H2H), a handicap of 0 corresponds to the three rounds shot with a perfect score. A handicap of 90 corresponds to three rounds shot without any score. So, anyone shooting say, three H2H competitive rounds at 78 would have a handicap of 12. If their next H2H round scored 76, the adjusted score would be 88. After the last three arrows, they note who got the better gold. So, if the adjusted scores were equal, they would know who won without needing to do the calculations up at the target and delaying everyone else. Of course, a very good score would make winning the next one harder... "

Initial setup of the ladder
Although the initial assignment would be random, it might be better to place the random order of Juniors at the bottom. If they were randomly distributed amongst the seniors, they would get very dispirited if they were initially placed high up and then went into free-fall as the seniors beat them every time. Starting out at the bottom, any juniors beating an adult would have the satisfaction of moving upwards.

Avoiding "Ladder block"
If a challenge remains 'unshot' for (say) three weeks, the Records Officer should be allowed to declare the match won by default, unless he has been told of someone being away for holidays etc. Otherwise someone refusing to shoot the H2H or simply not coming to the club would stall the ladder.

Should all disciplines shoot on the one handicap ladder?
If we use the same weighting as GNAS uses, we could have longbow challenge compund and win!
